Kiln-dried Lumber and Slabs
All Carolina Urban Lumber wood products first go through one of our three on-site kilns. This ensures bug-free, stable, and consistent lumber, slabs, discs, mantels, and more.
Carolina Urban Lumber proudly uses kilns made in the USA from Vermont-based iDry. Using a combination of heat and vacuum, our kilns are some of the only of their kinds in the area and help us deliver a higher-quality product with less degradation and imperfections while drying.
Please be wary of other’s claims that their product is “properly dried.” Look out for these yellow flags when asking about the wood. These approaches DO NOT produce heirloom-quality results.
“This wood has been stored in my basement with a dehumidifier.”
“These slabs have been in a solar kiln for 16 months.”
Any wood products not properly dried can result in bugs and excessive movement (cupping, warping, splitting, etc.) afterwards.

Did you know?
The majority of slabs sold at Carolina Urban Lumber are 5 star rated.
We take our slabs seriously. When you buy a slab from us, take comfort knowing that they have, at minimum, been kiln-dried at over 135 degrees for 36+ hours and gone through a bug kill cycle at even higher heat.
Once dried, our 4 star slabs are flattened and given two parallel faces for their 5th and final star before being placed in our showroom or turned into a custom piece by our craftsmen.
Once 5 star rated, a slab is mere steps away from becoming a piece of furniture or art that can be cherished forever.
